Murakami’s art is overpriced in “scary” market

July 8, 2017

Murakami is a legendary Japanese artist who works in painting, sculpture, as well as fashion, merchandise, and animation.   According to Wikipedia, he calls his style superflat, which “describes both the aesthetic characteristics of the Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of post-war Japanese culture and society.”  However you want to relate to it, his work is incredibly vibrant, colorful, fun and accessible, but at the same time “high-brow.”  It’s no surprise that he has worked with pop artists like Kanye West, but at the same time, he sees his work as being exploited and become overpriced in the ridiculousness of rich art collectors.
